Fancy Friday #100 – Easter

Happy friday and almost easter. Today it is post number 100 in Fancy Friday. It’s really crazy to think about. We are celebrating easter a little early here, hoping to inspire other people to what they want to wear for easter.

I started out with two coats of OPI Alpine Snow. After that dried, I applied liquid latex around my nails so ease clean up. I then water marbled with Essie Bikini so Teeny, Essie First Timer, Revlon Buttercup, Nubar Purple Aster and OPI Pink-ing of You. I was inspired for the water marble by @thepolishedokie on Instagram. Some of her nail art was stolen by a company and then sold as press on nails. Always give credit, where credit is due!

I quite liked to way the water marble looked, and I’m so doing the pattern again with other colors, but I decided to stamp on top of it. I used Mundo de Unas black stamping polish and MoYou London Festive 13. The ring finger is the least crooked of the patterns. It is quite hard to stamp straight lines every single time. It looks a little bit tribal, so with a different base it would look even more tribal. I topped off the manicure with a coat of Seche Vite. Fancy Friday #98 – Untried

Happy friday. Todays theme is untried, so I grabbed a couple of untried polishes and an untried stamping plate. I created a skittlette and I really like it.

On my index and pinky I did three coats of Nubar Rockin the Garden, a pretty dusty blue with blue/green shimmer. On my thumb and middle I painted a coat of Cult Nails Faded and a coat of Cult Nails Disciplined. On top I stamped with Depend 262 and MoYou London Bridal 07 plate. On my ring finger I painted three coats of Different Dimension Pothos, a beautiful rose gold/silver flake polish.

Pothos is super shiny and reflective. I was inspired by Martha from ChitChatNails. She did a skittlette using Different Dimension Pothos, that I just love. You can see it right here. Click on the blue blob to see what the other did with untried.

Fancy Friday #78 – A tutorial

Today the task is to create a tutorial, so I made my very first video tutorial. It was a little bit difficult getting the right angle, so I could see what I was doing but at the same time not blocking the camera. I hope you like it.

All the colors I used are listed in the description box below the video. I used the standard chevrons from NailVinyls – you can purchase them right here. They are super easy to use and they have a ton of different shapes and sizes.

I was inspired by an envelope from NailVinyls that my latest order came in. The pattern was so fun and happy that I just had to recreate it on my nails. I really liked doing a video tutorial, it is a bit time-consuming, but I would like to do more.

Click on the blue blob to see how the other ladies have done their tutorials. I know I can’t wait to check them out.

Fancy Friday #32 – Green Fingers

Today the theme was a color, green. I like green. I found out I have 63 green polishes. Today I have 4 of them for you. I did a simple manicure, with some glitter, flakes and creme finishes.

On my index I started out with two coats of Gosh Forest Floor, a dark green creme. It covered really well and I could have gotten away with one coat. I then did a glitter gradient at the base of the nail with Nubar Grass Green Glitter. On my middle finger I used three coats of China Glaze Running in Circles, a bright green glassfleck polish. On my ring finger and thumb I did three coats of Cult Nails Coveted, a dark green jelly shimmer with flakes. On my pinky I did the same as on my index.

It’s more of a quite manicure compared to some of the previous weeks, but sometimes it’s nice to just polish your nails and let it be. I know I have missed just doing that, since I have mostly worn designs for Fancy Friday for a long time. If you want to see what the others came up with for today, just click on the blue blob.

Fancy Friday #11 – Inspired by a painting or photo

Hello again. Today is not only the 11th post in Fancy Friday but it’s also my number 200 blog post. It has taken a couple of years to get here, and hopefully I will be here in another 200 posts 🙂

Todays challenge was to do a manicure inspired by a painting or photo. I am super happy about the results and can’t wait to share it with you. As soon as I saw the challenge I knew what I wanted to do. I will give you a chance to guess yourselves based on a photo before revealing it to you in writing 🙂

Did you guess it? If not I was inspired by Monet’s Waterlilies or Les Nymphéas as it’s called in French. My mom and dad had a poster from Monet’s home in Givenchy of the waterlilies hanging when I was younger and have always loved them. When I was in Paris this spring I had the chance to go to Musée de l’Orangerie where the 8 paintings are displayed. Monet spend 10 years of his life painting them. There are super pretty up close and portray different times of the day. To see them all go check out this link and if you click on the pictures you have the option of zooming in on them to see details.

I was inspired by the photo called “Martin” which means morning. Unfortunately I couldn’t add the picture to the blog post so please check out the link above to see the painting. I used a lot of nail polish for this look and some different techniques to get the effect I wanted. This was my first time truly free handing something and being inspired by a photo  and trying to replicate it.

For my base color I started out with one coat of Barry M Blueberry Icecream. I then pulled out Models Own Grape Juice from their Scented line and a pieces of saran wrap. I crumbled up the saran wrap painted on the light purple and dabbed it all over the nail. After letting that dry I took OPI Planks a Lot, one of my favorite purples and did the same only in smaller areas alternating the placement as I went a long.

After letting that dry I used China Glaze First Mate a dark navy and added small ripples at the tip of my nail using a small detailing brush. After letting that dry I picked up another small brush and added oval shapes in different sizes in OPI Mermaids Tears for the leaves of the waterlilies. I made them larger in the front and smaller in the back. Then I took China Glaze White on White and added small  flowers on the leaves in different positions, shapes and sizes.

After that was dry I went in with a light pink Nubar Pink Lily and added some pink on some of the flowers leaving some of the white. Second I added light yellow with Revlon Buttercup on some of the white ones, while leaving some white to get three different colors in the waterlilies. I then went in with a tiny bit of Essie Mint Candy Apple on some of the leaves to get a bit of dimension. Finally I took a bit of  Cult Nails Enticing a sheer pink and placed that in the water to add a little effect to the dark blue lines.

I chose not to add a topcoat before taking pictures because I wanted to painting effect. Since a painting is not smooth and glossy I didn’t want my nails to be that either. I am super happy about the result and super proud because they turned out just as I had imagined. To see what the other ladies chose as their inspiration click on the blue blob in the bottom 🙂

Is anybody still here? + my latest polishes

Hello everyone. I don’t blame you if you have given up on me 🙂 I didn’t mean to fall off the face of the earth, but after handing in my assignment, I felt kind of empty and then Christmas and New Years came around. Then I went back to school, trying to adjusting to having classes again and homework to do. I have an even bigger backlog now, so I’m not going to run out of manicures to show you. Then I went to Madrid on a studietrip and home came 32 polishes, wups 😉 My excuse is that you can’t get Essence and Catrice here, so that’s why so many had to come home with me 🙂 I had a plan to post a picture of my Valentines Day manicure I made with my new Essence stamp kit, but I failed miserably so I will spare you that sight 🙂 Instead here are two packages I order in 2012 and tomorrow I will show you the polishes from Madrid.

Hej allesammen.

First up is Beautybay.com. You all know how I love that site. They had a sale and free shipping, so I would be a fool not to take advantage. Only problem is that OPI have increased their prices so now OPI is even more expensive to get on here, but still cheaper than buying them in stores.

Left to right: Orly Rock It, Au Champagne, Emberstone, Nubar Pink Lily, Purple Aster, Mod Aqua, Grass Green Glitter and mini topcoat and mini basecoat.

Then I ordered some Essies from Billigvoks.dk (sorry danes only).

Left to right: School of Hard Rocks, Mint Candy Apple, Lilacism, Aruba Blue, Ballet Slippers, Size Matters

Nubar – Treasure

Since I missed a blogpost yesterday of my challenge, I’m making up by making two blogspost. Today’s real color is purple, and since I have so many different purple swatches on my computer it was hard to choose. Since I recently bought the 4 holographic polishes from Make Up Store and Sofie really wanted to see what they looked like, I decided to take a holo I had swatched, since they look best in sunlight, which is not something we see a lot of in Denmark this time of year.

So I present to you, Hologodness from Nubar. It’s a scattered holo, where as the Make Up Store ones are linear. It’s a pretty lavender purple and I used three thin coats I think. It was released in the Prism Collection in 2010, which can be recognized on it’s silver caps. It can be bought on Beautybay.com, where I got mine.
