Fancy Friday #78 – A tutorial

Today the task is to create a tutorial, so I made my very first video tutorial. It was a little bit difficult getting the right angle, so I could see what I was doing but at the same time not blocking the camera. I hope you like it.

All the colors I used are listed in the description box below the video. I used the standard chevrons from NailVinyls – you can purchase them right here. They are super easy to use and they have a ton of different shapes and sizes.

I was inspired by an envelope from NailVinyls that my latest order came in. The pattern was so fun and happy that I just had to recreate it on my nails. I really liked doing a video tutorial, it is a bit time-consuming, but I would like to do more.

Fancy Friday #62 – Neon

Hello and happy friday, today we are playing with neons, since neon is connected to summer, at least in my mind.

I chose a neon gradient and combined it with glittery zigzags. The first gradient I did failed and I was running out of time before going to my little sister’s graduation, so I removed it and applied three coats of China Glaze Sun of a Peach. When I got home I gave the gradient another shot and it worked out much better. Aside from Sun of a Peach, I used China Glaze That’s Shore Bright and Orly Beach Cruiser. I did a gradient using Sun of a Peach and Beach Cruiser on my pinky, since the nail is much smaller.

After letting it dry overnight, I taped off the thumb and ring using the smaller zigzag Nail Vinyls. I then painted over with China Glaze Champagne Kisses. I removed the tape as soon as the nail was covered with the glitter to get crisp lines. I finished off with a coat of HK Girl top coat.

The gradient turned out really good, when I just had a little patience instead of rushing it. The glitter zigzags added just a touch of sparkle to the manicure. The color combo makes my hands look tan. Click on the blue blob to check out the other ladies neon nails.

Fancy Friday #61 – Texture

Hi everybody. Last year when we had a texture challenge I played with striping tape, creme colors and texture polishes. This year, I used tape again but in a different way.

I started out with a coat of Duri Rejuvacote and after letting it dry, I placed a half-moon sticker from Nail Vinyls at the cuticle on all of my nails. I patted it down so it was secure and painted two quick coats of Gosh Frosted Purple. I removed the stickers and revealed the naked half-moon. I cleaned off the Rejuvacote on the naked nail.

The design turned out good, and the naked half-moon looked great against the silvery purple texture polish. Click on the blue blob on the bottom to check out what the other ladies have come up with for texture friday.

Fancy Friday #48 – Negative Space Nails

Hi guys. Happy Friday. Today we are doing negative space nails, which is nail art that shows the natural nail in part of the design. There is endless possibilities, and it looks pretty cool.

I buffed my nails a little bit before applying my base coat, just to get the worst staining out. At first I wanted to do a half-moon mani, but then I decided to use my new chevron nailvinyls. My initial idea was on my thumb, but after doing that nail I decided just to do one color on each nail

I used China Glaze Highlight of My Summer, a neon mint from last years Sunsational Collection for the small triangle and China Glaze That’s Shore Bright, a neon purple or radiant orchid color also from last years Sunsational Collection.

On the rest of my nails I alternated between the two colors, leaving the base of the nail bare. I cleaned up small mistakes with a small brush dipped in remover. A finished off with a coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

Bonus shot. There are pretty little flowers popping up in my garden, so here is a shot with them. I love this look it has a spring feel and I really like the neon against the natural nail. To see what the other ladies have done with the negative space theme, just click on the blue blob in the bottom.

Fancy Friday #29 – Copy That, Copy Cat

Today the theme is to copy another bloggers manicure, of course by crediting the source. I was empty for inspiration, but after going through some of my favorite bloggers instagrams I found a manicure that was perfect.

I have mentioned Marta from ChitChatNails before. She does those amazing skittelettes and her pictures are gorgeous. I choose this manicure. The index, middle and pinky nail is made with Scratch nail wraps, but I made mine with polish.

I started out with two coats of Cult Nails Manipulative. It’s a pretty green/blue turquoise color with pretty shimmer. I let that dry over night and the next day I cut pieces of tape. I placed one piece of tape on each finger diagonally and then painted Essie Blue Rhapsody over. It’s a very shiny metallic blue. I let that dry for a couple of hours and then placed another piece of tape the other way diagonally. I painted on Nails Inc Motcomb Street. A deep navy blue, that’s super opaque. I let it dry for a couple of minutes before placing the blue rhinestone with a little bit of topcoat in between. I finished with a coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast top coat.

On my thumb and ring finger I’m wearing two coats of OPI Tiffany Case, the same polish Marta is wearing. It’s a turquoise textured sand polish. Super pretty and sparkly. I love the design, it turned out super pretty, so thanks to Marta for always coming up with pretty combinations. Please check out her blog if you haven’t already.

Fancy Friday #17 – Sideway French

Today I have a very awesome manicure if I have to say it myself. I really loved how it turned out. Todays theme is sideway french, which is essentially a french tip turned on its side.

This manicure was so hard to take photos of because not all pictures would depict how pretty it looks in real life. Straightforward you can almost not see the french tip that peeks out and it just look black, but if you turn your fingers to the side you can.

I love the little surprise that comes when you turn your hand. I used three layers of OPI Goldeneye, a super pretty flakelike gold, that almost look like foil and is super sparkly and shiny. The gold is more yellow, but I still love it. I added french tip guides on the side of the nail and painted a coat of Illamasqua Scorn over one nail at a time while removing the tip guide quickly after the polish is applied. Scorn dries to a rubber finish, which almost looks like leather because of the slight texture the gold polish have.

I will try this combo for a ruffian manicure soon, because I think it will look just as awesome. To see what the other ladies chose for their color combo click on the blue blob in the bottom 🙂

Fancy Friday #15 – Two colors

Today the theme is two colors and so I did something easy. One color on each half of the nail. I used some tape and a fancy scissors to make it interesting.

I started with painting my nails with three coats of Cult Nails Kiss My Rose Bush that dries to a semi matte finish. Unfortunately this polish likes to drag so it wasn’t completely even. I added a topcoat to make it glossy and even. The next day I cut pieces of tape and taped off half of the nail and painted the other half with Sally Hansen Celeb City a very shiny silver foil. (I was wearing a green shirt which made the silver look a tiny bit green 😉

To see what the other ladies did today just click on the link in the bottom of the post.
