Fancy Friday #172 – Rainbow

Happy Friday. Todays theme is rainbow. I had this specific idea for a manicure in my head ever since I purchased these polishes last year, and finally had an opportunity to do it.

I have three coats of OPI This Gown Needs a Crown on my thumb, index and pinky. On my middle finger nail I have two coats of OPI My Signature is “DC” as the base for the water marble and three coats of Floss Gloss Dimepiece on my ring finger. I accidentally dipped the ring finger in the water, but the effect turned out really great.

The water marble is done with all of the OPI Color Paints polishes – Magenta Muse, Chromatic Orange, Primarily Yellow, Landscape Artist, Turquoise Aesthetic, Indigo Motif, Purple Perspective and Pen & Pink. I just dropped the polishes in without making a design before dipping in my finger. It turned out exactly as I had imagined. I’m definitely going to be using these polishes for a water marble again.

Fancy Friday #159 – Holographic

Happy belated friday. Time escaped from me yesterday, even though I did these nails thursday night. The weather have been sunny so what better time than now to bust out the holographic polishes.

I did a water marble with a touch of holographic. I started with three coats of Essie Hubby for Dessert. I water marbled with that, Essie Bangle Jangle, OPI Sleigh Parking Only and Appeal4 Marsmallow Holo. I drew a petal design in it and dipped my nails.

The pattern turned out really nice, and the pop of holographic really comes out the play in the sun. It has been a while since I have water marbled, so it was nice to do it again, even though it takes a while and is a little messy.

Fancy Friday #79 – Halloween

Happy Halloween. In Denmark we really don’t celebrate Halloween like the Americans, which is a little sad. I was lucky enough to visit Boston and New York in October 2010, and I spent some time driving around neighborhoods in Boston looking at the amazing Halloween decorations outside the houses. I did buy candy so if we have any trick or treaters we are prepared.

I normally don’t wear orange, because I’m never in the mood for that color, but because it is Halloween it was the perfect color. I started with a coat of OPI Where Did Suzi’s Man-Go?, and then water marbled with that, China Glaze Riveting and China Glaze Orange You Hot. After a lot of clean up (why does water marble have to be so messy?) I stamped using my Bundle Monster Holiday plates H06, H07, H08 and H11 and Depend Black Stamping polish.

It really screams Halloween, and those Bundle Monster plates are so handy for holidays, because there is something for all occasions. Click on the blue blob to see what everybody else came up with for this friday.

Bonus shot with a cute dried mini pumpkin.

Happy Halloween.

Fancy Friday #58 – Ice cream

Hello everybody. I have enjoyed a week, free from project work, it has been wonderful. Since it’s summer, we are diving into the theme of ice cream. I love ice cream, all the way from a popsicle in the sun to a bowl or pint of Ben & Jerry. I was a little bit in doubt about today’s nail art, but after seeing this, I was totally sure about what to do

from frisko.dk

This is the Zapp ice cream. I have never actually tasted this ice cream, but to pattern on it looks so cool, and I knew I was doing a water marble.

I started out with a coat of Sinful Colors Snow Me White. I then water marbled using distilled water and Cult Nails Deal With It, a green shimmer, OPI Kiss Me I’m Brazilian, a pink creme and China Glaze Happy Go Lucky. I didn’t have a specific pattern in mind when I did the water marble, but it turned out pretty cool looking. Click on the blue blob to see how the other ladies have used ice cream on their nails.

Fancy Friday #20 – Accent Nail

Hi guys 🙂

Before we get into today’s manicure, I have a small favor to ask of you. I entered a competition and would like you to vote for me. Just click on this link http://www.isadora.com/dk/competition/sofie-amalie-blomsterberg/ to vote. Then press “stemme” and add your name, email and a motivation. Uncheck the box if you are not Danish, otherwise you will get a newsletter in Danish, and then click on the grey box. Sorry that everything is in Danish but it should be easy to do 🙂 Thank you so much 🙂 Please share with friends if you like 🙂

Today’s manicure is an accent nail. I wanted to do something with neons, to soak up that last bit of sun before we begin a long winter.

On my left hand I started with a coat of China Glaze White on White on all nails. After that I added two coats of China Glaze Sun-Kissed from the Summer Neons collection. On my ring finger I did a water marble using China Glaze Love’s a Beach, Sun-Kissed and Orange You Hot?.

I also started with a coat of White on White and used two coats of Orange You Hot? also from the Summer Neons collection from 2012. I used the same colors for the water marble. I was going for a flower design. I really liked the bright colors, but I think I’m ready for darker colors going into fall. Click on the blue blob to see what the other ladies have come up with today 🙂

4th of July Manicures

Tomorrow is the 4th of July in the US, and even though I’m spending the day in Denmark I did something fun on my nails. Last year we traveled to the US a couple of days after 4th of July but we celebrated it in the garden with some friends, BBQ and a Boston Creme Pie. I did two set of nails, one for the day and then I redid then a couple of days later before we traveled to the US but keeping the design almost the same.

Last year I used two coats of Barry M Blue Moon, two coats of Deborah Lippmann Happy Birthday (it’s the constitutions birthday after all and it reminded me of fireworks) and then I topped it off with one coat of Blue Moon. On my ring finger I did the same flag design I did for the 4th of July in Atlanta in 2011, using Orly Star Spangled, and Stripe Rite in Blue and White 🙂 One the day I wore the same manicure except I used Essie Marshmallow for the glitter sandwich nails.

This year I actually went to a Family Picnic at the American Ambassador residency here in Denmark. It’s been a couple of years since they held it, because the previous ambassador only wanted to have a party with CEO’s and important Danish people, but since she traveled home early this year and the new ambassador is not here yet, we had the chance to do it again. It’s super fun and there is a lot of different American food and a raffle. I actually won a box with ten boxes of chocolate in it.

I wore this design on my left hand. Index finger is two coats of China Glaze White on White. I used a star cut-out on painters tape and China Glaze Splish Splash and China Glaze Hey Sailor. Check out this tutorial by Sarah from Chalkboard Nails. Her stars are a bit smaller than mine were. On my middle finger I did a water marble inspired by My Simple Little Pleasures’ tutorial here. I used China Glaze White on White, First Mate and Hey Sailor. On my ring finger I did my standard flag using Orly Star Spangled, China Glaze White on White and First Mate. On my pinky I used China Glaze White on White, JENsations New England Patriots and a layer of Essie Marshmallow.

On my thumb I did a flag design but I used textured polishes for a different look. Zoya Chyna for the red color, Kiko Sea Blue for the blue and OPI Solitaire for the white.

On my right hand I used the same colors and designs, but did the textured flag on the ring finger instead. My water marble turned out completely different even though I did the same design and dropped the colors the same way.

I did the regular flag design on my thumb. I got tons of compliments, and really enjoyed wearing the different designs. See you all friday for the next design in Fancy Friday. This week is tape. Happy 4th of July to those of you who are in the US or celebrating it anywhere else in the world.

Fancy Friday #3 – Water Marble

Happy friday. In 4 days I will be done with my project I’m doing with 7 other people. I’m so ready for it to be finished, so I don’t have to spend 13 hours a day at the university.

Today I have my very first water marble as a part of the fancy friday challenge. I really loved the outcome and it was much easier than I expected based on what other people had written about it. I did have bubbles on pretty much every nail, but I think that was partly the polish fault and partly the water. I used bottled water because I didn’t have a water filter or filtered water, but I will buy some for my next water marble because I’m so doing this again.

I loved the color combination of the three polishes, and all of the behaved really well in the water, spreading out great. I used Essie Bikini So Teeny, Mint Candy Apple and Mojito Madness. I didn’t use tape around my nails which made clean-up a bit of work, so I will do that the next time. I have watched a lot of tutorials on YouTube with my favorite being My Simple Little Pleasures. She is the queen of water marbles.

The thumb turned out the best, because it didn’t have any bubbles. My next water marble is going to be with the some of the neon polishes from China Glaze’s last years summer collection. To check out how the other girls did in the water marble challenge, click in the little blue blob to get to the links 🙂
