Fancy Friday #160 – Desert nail art

Happy friday. Today is the world day to combat desertification and drought, so we are doing desert nails. I decided to do some sand nail art, which I also did almost a year ago today. I used Chalkboard Nails’ tutorial for her beach nail art.

VDSC_0255

It is pretty simple to do. I started with three coats of Sally Hansen Malt. I mixed Malt with black and white to create the different colors for the sand. I dotted them on randomly with a small nail art brush.

VDSC_0265

I like the nail art even though it is really simple. If I had more time, I would have been more creative, but for now this will do just fine. I thought about combining the sand with a cactus, but ended up going the simple route.

Fancy Friday #149 – Fun and games

So I had no clue about todays theme, so I didn’t have a chance to do something new for this week. It’s April Fool’s day, so that inspired me a bit as well as the fun part of the challenge. I found some old manicures I hadn’t shown yet, so that will have to do for today.

VDSC_1318

The first manicure is done with Picture Polish Fool’s Gold and Zoya Vega. I stamped on top with Depend White Stamping Polish and Bundle Monster XL24. The name Fool’s Gold reminded me of April Fool’s.

VDSC_0935

This is a really old manicure, back from 2012. This was the manicure I wore for my birthday that year. What is more fun than a birthday? I used Sally Hansen Be-Jeweled and Color Club Eternal Beauty.

VDSC_1445

The last manicure, is my 4th of July manicure from last year. I love celebrating 4th of July, the food, fireworks and spending time with my family. This year I’m flying into Boston on the 4th, so hopefully we will get to see some fireworks. I used China Glaze First Mate on my index and stamped white stars from Bundle Monster XL23, the middle is Orly Star Spangled and the white stripes are also from the XL23 plate. On the ring finger I have the american flag hand painted. The pinky is OPI Alpine Snow and Dollish Polish It’s a Me Mario.

Remember to click by the other ladies, who have been more creative than me today.

Fancy Friday #139 – Christmas manicure 2015

Merry Christmas. I hope you had a good Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. I spent yesterday eating dinner with my aunt, uncle, cousins, grandmother, mom, dad and little sister before opening presents. Today we have just lounged around the home in sweatpants and christmas sweaters. Today is optional, but since I did a christmas manicure I thought I would show it to you. I actually included my manicure from last year as well, since I didn’t show you that last year. I also found my christmas manicure from 2012 that I hadn’t shown, so it is almost like a trip down memory lane 🙂

VDSC_0109

This was some of my very first nail art. The base is Essie Bobbing for Baubles. On my index and pinky I have one coat of Ninja Polish The Midas Touch. The christmas tree on my ring finger is done with tape and Sally Hansen Gilty Pleasure and the star is from Wet n Wild Hollywood Walk of Fame. The snowflake is also done in Sally Hansen Gilty Pleasure and with a small nail art brush.

VDSC_0433

I was inspired for this by The Nail Network. I used three coats of OPI My Vampire Is Buff. The red dots are China Glaze Cranberry Splash, the green is Sally Hansen Jumpin’ Jade and the gold is OPI Golden Eye.

VDSC_1920

This year I went for a red skittlette. I was a little bit inspired by Lucy’s Stash and the way she used Zoya Posh. I started with three coats of Zoya Posh on my thumb, index, middle and pinky. On ring finger I did three coats of OPI Love.Angel.Music.Baby. I used the same OPI polish and MoYou London Festive 03 plate to stamp snowflakes on my thumb and middle finger nails. Zoya Posh dries matte, but I top-coated it to bring out the glowing shimmer.

VDSC_1926

Thank you for this year. My next manicure will be my New Years Eve manicure that will be up the first day of the new year. Happy Holidays 🙂

Fancy Friday #126 – Inspired by a pet

Happy Friday. So my nails today are inspired by one of my two cats, Bernie. We got Bernie a little over a year ago from a shelter. He is so cute and I jokingly call him a Catipard because he looks like a mix between a cat, tiger and leopard. He has black spots and stripes, so that is what I put on my nails today.

VDSC_1601

Here is a picture of Bernie, so you can see his spots and stripes.

VDSC_1597

I started with three coats of OPI My Vampire is Buff as the base, I then sponged on a mix of Sally Hansen Malt and Appeal4 Rosebay Dust with saran wrap. Finally I stamped on leopard spots and tiger stripes from the MoYou London Pro 04 Plate using MoYou London Black Knight. I really liked that stamping polish, it was thick, opaque and black, without any weird smells. I have been looking for a new black stamping polish and I think I found it. I decided not to top coat the look for the photos, because I liked the semi matte look with a little bit of texture from the saran wrap.

Another photo of Bernie. Remember to click by the other ladies to see what they have come up with for today. Have a great weekend 🙂

Fancy Friday #121 – Pond manicure

Today I got a chance to play a little with my new OPI Color Paints and I really like them so far. They apply nicely and dry to a glossy and squishy finish. The photos do not do these nails justice, I couldn’t seem to capture the nail art as pretty as it is in real life.

VDSC_1430 crop

I started with two coats of OPI Pen & Pink and after letting that dry I stamped with Barry M Silver Foil and MoYou London Pro 06 XL. On my pinky I tried stamping with Sally Hansen Celeb City and on my ring finger OPI My Signature is “DC” but those didn’t show up as well as I wanted them to. I then painted a coat of OPI Pen & Pink on top and finish with a top coat.

VDSC_1441

I contemplated stamping twice, but decided against it, I’ll probably try that with one of the other colors and post the result when I get around to trying it out. I like the glittery effect that the pinky and ring finger have but they don’t show up as well as the Barry M Silver Foil. I edited this photo a bit and played up the contrasts a tiny bit so it would show up better in the photos.

VDSC_1439

Bonus shot of my thumb. Expect to see more nail art done with the OPI Color Paints. When I started seeing swatches pop up around the internet I was not interested, but the more nail art I saw done with them, the more I liked them, and I am just one short of the full collection. Remember to click by the blue frog to see what the other ladies did.

Fancy Friday #111 – Water Spotted

Today was a new technique for me. I never tried water spotted before, but it looks really cool. It didn’t quite turn out how I wanted. I searched online and came by Spektor’s Nails and her blue water spotted nails, which inspired by for the color choice. My holes didn’t become as large as I wanted them, but I will play around a bit more with the technique.

VDSC_1212

I started with two coats of Sally Hansen Pacific Blue (the original color) and then I used tap water for the water spotted effect. I didn’t want to use the water I normally use for water marbling because I had a feeling I would need to change the water quite often as it became filled with perfume. I dropped a couple of drops of a England Queen of Scots and spritzed some perfume on top to create the holes. The second color is Essie Blue Rhapsody. It didn’t want to create holes as well as the dark blue and ended up covering a bit to much of the base and the dark blue on my index finger, so I went back in with Pacific Blue and water spotted with that.

VDSC_1231

My pinky turned out really good. I really liked how the dark blue looked on my ring finger that I ended up not covering it with the chrome blue polish. I used an old perfume that smelled like rose, so my nail smelled like roses for a couple of days, so keep that in mind if you use a perfume.

VDSC_1224

On my thumb I switched out the Essie polish for Sally Hansen Leaden Lilac, but it didn’t show up as bright over the base, but it created a really cool effect. I think I had trouble with the chrome polish partly because my water wasn’t to clean and partly because the polish dries super fast. Remember to click by the other ladies to see what they have done for today.

#WeekendOffNailArtChallenge – Day 16 Stamping

Today’s theme is stamping. I love stamping, it is a super quick technique and you get great results. Fun fact, my frist real stamping try was for Fancy Friday #13 and I used the same base polish as I did today. It was a total coincidence, and I didn’t realize it until after polishing my nails.

VDSC_0851

I started with three coats of Models Own Blueberry Muffin, a blueberry scented light blue polish. I was inspired for this manicure by Oooh, Shinies! who did a triple stripes stamping manicure a couple of weeks ago. The first color is used for stamping is Sally Hansen Leaden Lilac, I then turned the pattern in its side and stamped with Depend White stamping polish. Finally I angled the pattern diagonally on the nails and stamped with Barry M Blue magnetic polish.

VDSC_0834

I used MoYou London Holy Shapes 08 for the pattern. I really like the results of multiple stamping on top of each other. I think it is a fun way of stamping, because you can get really creative and either stamp the same image in different colors or doing different patterns on top of each other. It creates a good depth in the manicure.

#WeekendOffNailArtChallenge – Day 13 Nimbus

Today’s theme is nimbus. This week we are doing different techniques. Today we are jumping into the nimbus, a technique thought up by Sammy from The Nailasaurus. It is quite simple to do, you just thin some polish using acetone and then dot it on the nail using a cotton bud soaked in acetone.

VDSC_0739

I used two coats of OPI Alpine Snow as the base and then started with Flormar 240, then Sally Hansen Pink Bouquet, OPI Kiss Me I’m Brazilian, OPI Don’t Bossa Nova Me Around and OPI I Love Applause. I layered the different colors and went back in randomly to cover any white spots.

VDSC_0742

I finished with a coat of Seche Vite. I was a bit surprised at how easy it actually was. Sometimes simple techniques are not so simple when you try them out for the first time. I’m definitely trying this technique again. It would be really nice as an accent nail.

#WeekendOffNailArtChallenge – Day 9 Purple

Today’s theme is purple.

VDSC_0603

Today the manicure is quite simple, since it only consist of one polish. Magnetic polish was huge a couple of years ago, where every brand came out with them. I really like that you can create fast nail art by just using a magnet and you can get different patterns. This Sally Hansen polish comes with the standard magnetic pattern, the curved stripes. It’s called Red-y Response, but it is more of a purple burgundy than a red.

#WeekendOffNailArtChallenge – Day 2 Texture

Today’s theme is texture. I love texture polishes and decided to try something new with them. A texture gradient. I have seen so many pretty ones on different blogs that I decided to try it out myself.

VDSC_0516

I used two coats of OPI Alpine Snow as the base and then added liquid latex around the nail to help with the cleanup. The blue is Sally Hansen Sugar Cloud and the purple is Rimmel Violet Swizzle. I sponged on four coats, to get it as opaque as possible and blended right. The remaining texture bits was pretty easy to cleanup with some acetone and hand washing.

VDSC_0527

I didn’t top coat to keep the texture effect. This totally reminds me of either a really pretty summery slushice or a sunset. I will definitely try this type of gradient again, and with the liquid latex, cleanup is a breeze.
