#WeekendOffNailArtChallenge – 27 Dragmarble

We are entering into the last four days of the challenge. Today’s theme is dragmarble. I’m not entirely happy about today’s outcome. I think my inspiration photo was much better and of course after doing the nails I had a ton of other ideas. Typical 🙂

VDSC_0942

I was inspired by a manicure by Simple Little Pleasures on YouTube. She did a fiery manicure inspired by Hunger Games. I first applied a thinner coat of OPI Alpine Snow and then did a thicker coat on nail at a time. I then dragged a toothpick with polish on through the wet polish with a light hand. I used OPI Jinx, Gosh Frosted Gold and Zoya Chyna.

VDSC_0951

I don’t know what it is with me and applying wet polish to wet polish, it looks so cool and simple when other people do it, but when I do it, it turns out so differently. I might try out some of my other ideas another time. My family all think my nails looked really cool, so it might just be me.

Fancy Friday #91 – Recreate another Fancy Friday Mani

Today was not a good day, but luckily it’s friday and this challenge was fun. It took some time looking through all the other ladies previous manicures, and it was quite hard to narrow down which one I was recreating.

fancy friday skittlette recreate

My choice fell on this skittelette manicures from Louise from Nails Always Polished. I have major nail envy, her nail beds are long and nice. Louise used my favorite polish Pacific Blue from Sally Hansen.

VDSC_0544

I used two coats of Pacific Blue on my thumb and index. On my middle I used two coats of OPI Black Onyx, after it dried a bit, I used a medium-sized dotting tool and OPI Alpine Snow to create the dots. On my pinky I used two coats of Gosh Frosted Silver.

VDSC_0524

Turns out Louise choose my favorites manicure, the splatter using Pacific Blue to recreate. What a coincidence 🙂 Take a look around the other blogs, by clicking on the blue blob, it’s really fun to see the recreations. We should totally do it again, because I know the other ladies also had trouble narrowing down their selections.

Fancy Friday #76 – International Cake Decoration Day

I’m a huge cake fan. Well I’m actually a huge fan of anything sweet, except cake with fruit in it, although I don’t mind banana or certain berries. Give my something with chocolate and I’m happy. I also love baking and decorating, so today was right up my alley. I planned to do one stroke flowers, but half of the time they didn’t look good when I practiced, so instead I went to Carlos Bakery’s website, since I’m also a huge fan of Cake Boss.

I looked through the gallery, and came across this cake with leopard spots, glitter and bows, and thought it was just perfect and would look super cute as nail art. Also it has been over a year since I have done a leopard print on my nails.

VDSC_0213

I started out with two coats of Essie Mint Candy Apple, for the base of the cake. Then I did the spots in Kiko Light Misty Green with a dotting tool, and outlined the spots with OPI Black Onyx using a small nail art brush. For the glitter accent I used three coats of Gosh Frosted Silver, and did the bow again using Black Onyx and the small brush. I finished off all the nails with a coat of Poshe topcoat.

VDSC_0219

This mani is so cute, and really reminded me that I should do leopard spots more often, because they are so easy, but look really cool. This challenge, really made me want to bake a batch of fudge brownies, so I think that is going to happen tomorrow. I know there are some of the girls who did cupcakes this week, so click on the blue blob to see that.

Fancy Friday #61 – Texture

Hi everybody. Last year when we had a texture challenge I played with striping tape, creme colors and texture polishes. This year, I used tape again but in a different way.

VDSC_0212

I started out with a coat of Duri Rejuvacote and after letting it dry, I placed a half-moon sticker from Nail Vinyls at the cuticle on all of my nails. I patted it down so it was secure and painted two quick coats of Gosh Frosted Purple. I removed the stickers and revealed the naked half-moon. I cleaned off the Rejuvacote on the naked nail.

VDSC_0218

The design turned out good, and the naked half-moon looked great against the silvery purple texture polish. Click on the blue blob on the bottom to check out what the other ladies have come up with for texture friday.

Fancy Friday #56 – Inspired by a famous person

Hello everybody and happy friday. I’m feeling like myself again and can eat normally. I still have the stitches, but they will be gone on their own in about a week or two. Today we are getting inspired by celebrities. I have seen that some of the others have been inspired by clothing worn by a celebrity, but I decided to recreate nail art worn by a famous person.

I chose this manicure by Zooey Deschanel from New Girl, because it looked really cool, easy to do and spring like. This picture is from her Instagram account, and she wears a lot of nail art.

VDSC_0152

I didn’t go for the colors that were the closest because I wanted to use some of my untried polishes. The four colors I ended up using were all untried until now. I started out with three coats of Kiko Golden Tiffany, a mint with golden shimmer. I then did two lines crossing in the center of the nail with Rimmel Blueberry Whizz, a blue shimmer texture from the Sweetie Crush collection and a striper brush. Using the same brush I added a diagonal line with Finger Paint Sexy Sundress, a bright acid green and a small straight line. I did the gold stripes following the line of the blue with Gosh Frosted Gold. I finished up with a coat of HK Girl top coat.

The look was easy to do. You can change the colors, make the lines smaller or wider or use different finishes for a different look. Click on the blue blob to see what the other ladies have inspired by, I know a couple was inspired by Katy Perry, but their looks are totally different, which is so fun.

Fancy Friday #50 – Tribal

Hello. This week I’ve been working on an essay for school, but I managed to paint my nails. I was a little lost at first but after googling I found this really pretty design by Nailside, that I copied.

VDSC_0198

I used two coats of Gosh Frosted Silver on my index and pinky, two coats of Kiko 637 Turquoise, a textured creme on my middle finger and two coats of Kiko 344 Light Misty Green on my ring and thumb. I then used a striping brush, a small nail art brush and a dotting tool together with Essie No Place Like Chrome, to create the tribal design. On my left hand I kept the accent nails with the tribal but switched around the two textured polish to switch things up a bit.

Even though I’m not a huge fan of tribal nail art, this was simple enough for me, and it was easy and fast to do. Every time I’m wearing nails that are different, I’m reminded of how much fun and easy it is to create, so if you haven’t tried skittles or skittelettes our yet do it. Click on the blue blob in the bottom to see what the others have come up with for tribal nail art.

Fancy Friday #49 – Inspired by a shoe

Today we are doing nails inspired by a shoe. I was deciding between my very expensive Louboutin shoes and my crazy awesome holographic glitter shoes from Nine West. In the end the holographic glitter shoes won, partly because the sun was shining bright outside.

VDSC_0186

I started this look out with three coats of Gosh Holographic Hero. This is the relaunch of the HTF Gosh Holographic. The new version has a better formula, but is a little less holographic. After that I applied a coat of Essence Hello Holo, a holographic glitter, I then stamped a fish net pattern on top in Nails Inc Serena, to mimic the pattern in the shoe. I finish off with a coat of Hello Holo that I dabbed on, and finally a coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast.

VDSC_0177

I really love this look. It’s super sparkly and holographic. The look exactly like the shoes. I bought these on sale in Florida and they are my favorite shoes (well after my Louboutin’s). They are super comfortably even though they are high, and add that perfect sparkle to every look.

VDSC_0165

Bonus shot of the holographic effect. Click on the blue blob in the bottom, to see what shoes the other ladies have been inspired by today.

Fancy Friday #37 – Waterfall

Today we are doing this technique made by the awesome Sammy from The Nailasaurus. Sammy makes really great tutorials and her nail art is simple, yet so beautiful. I wanted to try this technique out since I saw it on Sammy’s blog, so I’m glad it was one of our challenges.

I am still completely in love with the splatter that I did a couple of months back, mostly because of the color scheme. That grey and copper with the black looked so good together so that’s where my inspiration for these colors came from.

VDSC_0013

I started out with two coats of Gosh Miss Grey, a jelly like grey creme. I then took my smallest striping brush from BornPrettyStore and made different sized stripes with Gosh Golden Bronze, Essie Penny Talk, China Glaze Champagne Kisses and finally Nails Inc Serena. The bronze and copper colors really pop on the grey base and the glitter just add a little sparkle without overwhelming the look. Please check out the other ladies blogs, to see what colors they have chosen for their waterfalls.

Fancy Friday #32 – Green Fingers

Today the theme was a color, green. I like green. I found out I have 63 green polishes. Today I have 4 of them for you. I did a simple manicure, with some glitter, flakes and creme finishes.

VDSC_1523

On my index I started out with two coats of Gosh Forest Floor, a dark green creme. It covered really well and I could have gotten away with one coat. I then did a glitter gradient at the base of the nail with Nubar Grass Green Glitter. On my middle finger I used three coats of China Glaze Running in Circles, a bright green glassfleck polish. On my ring finger and thumb I did three coats of Cult Nails Coveted, a dark green jelly shimmer with flakes. On my pinky I did the same as on my index.

It’s more of a quite manicure compared to some of the previous weeks, but sometimes it’s nice to just polish your nails and let it be. I know I have missed just doing that, since I have mostly worn designs for Fancy Friday for a long time. If you want to see what the others came up with for today, just click on the blue blob.

Fancy Friday #30 – Galaxy Manicure

Today we are going on a trip into outer space. I have had a super busy week, so these nail was not made until yesterday afternoon. At that point I had worn last weeks fancy friday nails for a week. They were quite chipped and had lost a couple of rhinestones.

VDSC_1477

I started with a coat of Nails Inc Serena, a black creme. When that was touch dry I sponged on OPI Russian Navy. It’s didn’t really show up on the nails but added some shimmer. I then sponged on Orly Sweet Peacock, a medium foil blue. Then I sponged on Color Club Alias, a purple shimmer with some gold, green and pink duochrome-ness. After that I went in with Cult Nails Bad D.N but that did not show up on the black base, so I grabbed China Glaze When Stars Collide from their Holographic collection and sponged that on.

VDSC_1482

After that I pulled out a little bit of Gosh Holographic Hero, to create some grey areas. Finally I used a small nail art brush and China Glaze White on White to create the small stars by dotting and painting the larger stars on. After letting it dry so I didn’t smear anything I first did a coat of INM Northern Lights, a holographic glitter topcoat and finally a coat of Cult Nails Wicked Fast. I love the finished result. I was a little scared that it was not as easy as it seemed when others do it, but it totally is. Just keep layering colors in different areas of the nail. Check out the others galaxies but clicking on the blue blob.
