Fancy Friday #115 – Holo weather

Happy Friday. I’m currently traveling on vacation so I prepared the next three Fridays posts. The weather in southern Germany is not that great, but hopefully the weather in Italy is much better. This week we are doing Holo weather, which is sunshine. Luckily the sun was shining while I was wearing this manicure, so you can see the beautiful holographic effect.

VDSC_1378

I started with three coats of China Glaze Neon & On & On on my index and middle finger. I used three coats of Models Own Shades on my ring finger and three coats of China Glaze That’s Shore Bright on my pinky. I then watermarbled using OPI Black Onyx and Appeal4 Marsmallow Holo – Steffi’s Pick. I dropped two drops of the holographic for each black drop just to get more holographic effect.

VDSC_1395

On my thumb I did three coats of Models Own Shades as well. I think my thumb had the best pattern. I really liked the holographic effect against the black and neon. The only thing was that Neon & On & On chipped the very next day. I’ll try it out again to see if it does the same thing, because I really like the color. Remember to click by the other ladies to see what they have done for today.

Fancy Friday #112 – Paradise

To me paradise is tropical beaches like in Hawaii. I have never been, but I really want to go sometimes, because it looks like heaven. I pulled out my MoYou London Tropical plates and stamped with them.

VDSC_1278

On my index and middle finger I painted three coats of Models Own Beach Bag, a bright peachy-coral neon. I stamped with Mundo de Uñas Black and MoYou London Tropical 03. On my ring finger I painted three coats of OPI This Color’s Making Waves from the Hawaii Collection, a beautiful turquoise/blue/purple duo chrome with gold glitter. I stamped with Depend White Stamping polish and MoYou London Tropical 11. On my pinky I have two coats of China Glaze Water You Waiting For?

VDSC_1261

I also painted three coats of OPI This Color’s Making Waves on my thumb and stamped two palm trees from MoYou London Tropical 11. I could stare at that blue duo chrome all day. It is so shiny and beautiful. I didn’t plan on picking up any polishes from the Hawaii Collection but they went on sale and this just spoke to me. The Danish summer weather is not here yet. It’s not the warm and it has been raining every day for like a week, not cool. Remember to see what the others have come up with for paradise nails.

#WeekendOffNailArtChallenge – Day 16 Stamping

Today’s theme is stamping. I love stamping, it is a super quick technique and you get great results. Fun fact, my frist real stamping try was for Fancy Friday #13 and I used the same base polish as I did today. It was a total coincidence, and I didn’t realize it until after polishing my nails.

VDSC_0851

I started with three coats of Models Own Blueberry Muffin, a blueberry scented light blue polish. I was inspired for this manicure by Oooh, Shinies! who did a triple stripes stamping manicure a couple of weeks ago. The first color is used for stamping is Sally Hansen Leaden Lilac, I then turned the pattern in its side and stamped with Depend White stamping polish. Finally I angled the pattern diagonally on the nails and stamped with Barry M Blue magnetic polish.

VDSC_0834

I used MoYou London Holy Shapes 08 for the pattern. I really like the results of multiple stamping on top of each other. I think it is a fun way of stamping, because you can get really creative and either stamp the same image in different colors or doing different patterns on top of each other. It creates a good depth in the manicure.

#WeekendOffNailArtChallenge – Day 10 / Fancy Friday #102 – Orange

Today’s theme is orange. I long time ago, a theme in Fancy Friday was sideway french – click here to see that. I still love that manicure. To not just do a plain swatch I decided to do a sideway french dotted manicure with orange shades.

VDSC_0728

I started with two coats of OPI Alpine Snow. I then added dots using two different sized dotting tools, even though the almost turned out the same size on the nail. I used OPI Toucan Do It If You Try, China Glaze Sun of a Peach, Kiko Apricot and Models Own Copper Pot to get a little sparkle.

VDSC_0731

I really liked how the sideway french dots looked. It was super easy to do, and a twist on the more classic dotted french tip. I’m not a huge fan of orange, but a little orange on a white base was quite nice.

Fancy Friday #71 – Drybrush

I have tried the dry brush or distressed technique thought out by Sarah from Chalkboard Nails before, so I wanted to do something a bit different this time. I thought of a post I saw on Lucy’s Stash, where she used duo-chrome polishes on a black base.

VDSC_0107

I started out with two coats of OPI Black Onyx. I then pulled out Dance Legend Celia & Boggs and Models Own Golden Green, from their duo-chrome Beetle Juice collection. I then wiped the brush completely off, before brushing the colors on randomly on the nails.

VDSC_0118

This have to be one of the hardest manicures to take photos of. The colors constantly change depending on the angle, you look at them in. This photo is taken in the shade to better see the colors. It almost looks like those beetle wings that have so many colors on them.

VDSC_0124

Bonus shot, to show some of the color shift. The dry brush technique is a lot more subtle when doing it like this. I kind of want to try it with a white base instead or with holographic polishes. Click on the blue blob to see what the other ladies have come up with.

Fancy Friday #63 – Stamping

Hello and happy friday. Today we are stamping, a technique I am really starting to enjoy and love playing around with. This time I went for a tropical look.

VDSC_0243

I started out with three coats of Sally Hansen Wavelength on my thumb and ring finger and three coats of Models Own Tropical Sun. After that dried I stamped with Depend Stamping polish in black using two different plates. On my thumb and ring finger I stamped with BBF 11 and on the rest of my nails I stamped a Hawaii flower design from MoYou 10XL

VDSC_0252

The stamping turned out really crisp on the flowers, a little bit less on the butterflies, but they still look good. Click on the blue blob at the bottom to see what the other ladies have stamped.

Fancy Friday #46 – Yellow, Red, Blue, Green

It’s friday once again, and today we are playing with colors. The prompt for today is using the colors yellow, red, blue and green. Other than that it’s up to our own imagination. I was empty for ideas once again, so I asked what the other girls were doing. One of them was doing one of the colors as a background and then using the rest as dots. My mind got started and I first thought about doing simple dotted flowers. The idea evolved a bit.

VDSC_0124

I started with two coats of Barry M Blueberry Icecream. I then used a coat of Max Factor Dazzling Blue on my index and pinky, a coat of Models Own Indian Ocean on my middle finger and Kiko Turquoise Microglitter on my ring finger. I then did roses after The Nailasaurus tutorial. I used Cult Nails Evil Queen as the base, Cult Nails Quench as dark accents and Revlon Buttercup for lighter accents. I used China Glaze Starboard for the leafs.

I really like the shimmery base together with the roses. I wanted to do roses again, since it’s almost a year since I did them last. The turned out pretty good and very springlike, since the weather have been nice and sunny in Denmark for the past week. You know the drill, click on the blue blob to see the other ladies nails.

Fancy Friday #13 – Pattern

Todays challenge is pattern or alternatively a stamped pattern. I have only stamped one time before so I decided that today was the day I wanted to do it again. It is my first full nail pattern.

VDSC_0897

I started with two coats of Blueberry Muffin from Models Own. The day after I added the stamping with a-England Tristam a very opaque scattered dark blue holo. I used stamping plate A I got from Foxy Fingertips. I don’t know the brand name but it’s a XXL stamping plate and I used a XL stamper.

I am super happy with my result for the first real stamping try. Hopefully there will be more stamping on the blog in the future 🙂 To see what the others came up with for today just click the blue blob in the bottom.

Fancy Friday #11 – Inspired by a painting or photo

Hello again. Today is not only the 11th post in Fancy Friday but it’s also my number 200 blog post. It has taken a couple of years to get here, and hopefully I will be here in another 200 posts 🙂

Todays challenge was to do a manicure inspired by a painting or photo. I am super happy about the results and can’t wait to share it with you. As soon as I saw the challenge I knew what I wanted to do. I will give you a chance to guess yourselves based on a photo before revealing it to you in writing 🙂

VDSC_0782

Did you guess it? If not I was inspired by Monet’s Waterlilies or Les Nymphéas as it’s called in French. My mom and dad had a poster from Monet’s home in Givenchy of the waterlilies hanging when I was younger and have always loved them. When I was in Paris this spring I had the chance to go to Musée de l’Orangerie where the 8 paintings are displayed. Monet spend 10 years of his life painting them. There are super pretty up close and portray different times of the day. To see them all go check out this link and if you click on the pictures you have the option of zooming in on them to see details.

VDSC_0792

I was inspired by the photo called “Martin” which means morning. Unfortunately I couldn’t add the picture to the blog post so please check out the link above to see the painting. I used a lot of nail polish for this look and some different techniques to get the effect I wanted. This was my first time truly free handing something and being inspired by a photo  and trying to replicate it.

VDSC_0785

For my base color I started out with one coat of Barry M Blueberry Icecream. I then pulled out Models Own Grape Juice from their Scented line and a pieces of saran wrap. I crumbled up the saran wrap painted on the light purple and dabbed it all over the nail. After letting that dry I took OPI Planks a Lot, one of my favorite purples and did the same only in smaller areas alternating the placement as I went a long.

VDSC_0789

After letting that dry I used China Glaze First Mate a dark navy and added small ripples at the tip of my nail using a small detailing brush. After letting that dry I picked up another small brush and added oval shapes in different sizes in OPI Mermaids Tears for the leaves of the waterlilies. I made them larger in the front and smaller in the back. Then I took China Glaze White on White and added small  flowers on the leaves in different positions, shapes and sizes.

VDSC_0804

After that was dry I went in with a light pink Nubar Pink Lily and added some pink on some of the flowers leaving some of the white. Second I added light yellow with Revlon Buttercup on some of the white ones, while leaving some white to get three different colors in the waterlilies. I then went in with a tiny bit of Essie Mint Candy Apple on some of the leaves to get a bit of dimension. Finally I took a bit of  Cult Nails Enticing a sheer pink and placed that in the water to add a little effect to the dark blue lines.

VDSC_0794

I chose not to add a topcoat before taking pictures because I wanted to painting effect. Since a painting is not smooth and glossy I didn’t want my nails to be that either. I am super happy about the result and super proud because they turned out just as I had imagined. To see what the other ladies chose as their inspiration click on the blue blob in the bottom 🙂

Fancy Friday #5 – Glitter Bomb Party

Hi guys. This week was so relaxing because I went to a summer-house with my project group. We had fun and the weather was for the most part great. We had a bonfire and grilled smores, dough and sausages.

This weeks Fancy Friday theme is Glitter Bomb Party. I knew I wanted to use my Models Own Mirror Ball glitters, since I hadn’t used them yet and they are sparkly. I did a skittle mani using creme/shimmer base colors and then the glitter on top.

VDSC_0455

On my index I have used Essie Mojito Madness and Dancing Queen. On my middle finger I used Barry M Blueberry Icecream and Freak Out! On my ring finger I used OPI Planks a Lot and Boogie Nights and on my pinky I used Revlon Cotton Candy and Hot Stuff. All is one coat and then a second one dabbed on where needed.

VDSC_0470

On my thumb I used Gosh Light Nutmeg and Disco Inferno. I really love this look. It’s so much fun and the bright and happy colors are perfect. You wouldn’t be able to get the Models Own opaque without using a million coats so it’s better to use some opaque colors underneath.

To see what the other ladies have been doing click on the blue blob at the bottom. Next weeks theme is something inspired by a movie or tv show. I don’t know what  will be doing so I’m going into thinking mode.
